New Orleans is a city that is known for its rich musical history. If you want to check out the local music scene, you should jump into your Hyundai and visit these great music venues!

Mother-In-Law Lounge

Kermit’s Treme Mother-In-Law Lounge was established by famed blues singer Ernie K. Doe. He named the club after his hit song, and the place quickly gained traction as a staple in New Orleans music scene. The venue is located at 1500 North Claiborne Avenue.

Ooh Pooh Pah Doo Bar

The Ooh Pooh Pah Doo Bar might have a weird name, but it’s definitely worth checking out. The bar was named after Jessie Hill’s 1960s R&B single. If you stop by for a visit at this bar, you will be treated to an authentic night of New Orleans Blues and Jazz.

The Maple Leaf Bar

The Maple Leaf Bar has been around for 40 years, and it’s easy to see why! This bar is known for its funky live bands and its hole-in-the-wall vibe. The close-knit feel and great music that you receive at this establishment is truly an experience worth having. Go on a Tuesday to check out New Orleans’ staple, the Rebirth Brass Band. You won’t be disappointed!

BJ’s Lounge

BJ’s Lounge is rugged and smoky, but still remains a local favorite. Go on a Monday night to see King James and the Special Men rock the place with their funky sound. The Lounge has no website, but they can be contacted at 504-945-9256.

If Jazz isn’t your thing, then mix it up by checking out Siberia. This location is known for its thriving punk rock scene. The bar is popular with the younger crowd, and is proof that people enjoy a variety of music in New Orleans beyond Blues and Jazz.

Snug Harbor

Snug Harbor is the type of bar true Jazz fans frequent. A-list local and national Jazz acts play here every night! Keep in mind, though – if you go to Snug Harbor, you’ll be expected to keep quiet and listen to the music. This is a place for true music fans.

Spotted Cat Music Club

The Spotted Cat Music Club is a place that is a favorite among locals. Don’t go here expecting a fancy martini, though. Everything is served in plastic cups, and you’re allowed to smoke inside – but frequenters believe that this style is what makes the club so great. The music here is amazing, and on any given night you’re sure to catch a great musical act.

The Three Muses

The Three Muses bar showcases music, fancy drinks, and delicious tapas. This place is truly upscale, so dress to impress! It has limited room and the tables fill up fast. Get there early if you want to catch their great musical acts.
