Family Fun at the Bear Creek Bayou in New Orleans

The Flaming Lips are due to headline a new-to-New Orleans festival this fall, joining a lineup that also includes Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Lettuce, Soulive, Flowtribe and the Foundation of Funk featuring George Porter Jr., Zigaboo Modeliste, John Medeski and Eddie Roberts, among others. The Bear Creek Bayou Festival is scheduled for Sept. 30 to Oct. 1, 2016.

The festival originally spent eight years in Florida as the Bear Creek Music and Art Festival, according to The event, however, was canceled in 2015 and organizers are heading to New Orleans instead.

The festival is scheduled to take place at Mardi Gras World, and the lineup will likely see more artists added at a later date.

The two-day event will be steeped in the tradition of New Orleans funk music, while providing an eclectic mix of artists, powerful big bands on par with past Bear Creek headliners, and genre-defining performers in world and roots music, live electronica, rock, and everything in between.

The festival will also have an official pre-party at the Joy Theater on Sept. 29 featuring Soulive & Friends, OG GAT (Charlie Hunter, Stanton Moore and Skerik), Naughty Professor featuring Chali 2Na and Pirate’s Choice. Tickets are available through the theater.
