Dress To Impress: NOLA Red Dress Run

Red Dress Run NOLAWhen you think about running a race, your outfit is one of the things you’ve got to consider. Good shoes? Check. Special sweat-wicking top? Got 12. The perfect little red dress? Um…

This August, update your thinking on race-ready attire. The New Orleans Red Dress Run is coming up, and it’s one athletic event where you really must dress to impress.

The 2017 Red Dress Run

On Saturday, August 12, 2017, New Orleans’ annual Red Dress Run will take place at Crescent Park. This will be the 23rd year that the city has been dyed red by these colorful runners. The New Orleans Hash House Harriers (NOH3) puts on the event as a philanthropic initiative, benefiting more than 100 local charities. There are actually three parts to the Red Dress Run weekend. If you’re a verified hasher, you can register for the Red Lingerie Run on Friday night and gain access to a special area on Saturday before the race. If you still haven’t had enough, you can also register for the Hangover Run on Sunday. “Hashers” are simply members of the Hash House Harriers, an international group of non-competitive running social clubs. To join, pay a visit to your local hash!

There’s more to this event than running and playing who wore it better. Entertainment includes performances by renowned funk band Brass-A-Holics as well as Baton Rouge-based teen band Remedy. Another perk for registered runners is the free-flowing, unlimited beer and food that pairs perfectly with the live music. The run is expected to start at about 12:30 p.m., but participants begin gathering as early as 9 a.m. Saturday morning.

How to Register

Registering for the Red Dress Run is easy. You can reserve your spot ahead of time by registering online. Alternatively, you can arrive early and sign-up the day of the event or at the expo. Bear in mind that only cash will be accepted if you do decide to register at the expo or the race itself. All registrants must pick up their racing packets and provide valid ID at the expo. This event isn’t for the kiddos, though. You must be 21 or older to participate. Online registration costs $68, and day-of registration is $75. Save some money and sign up now!
