The Summer in New Orleans can be excruciatingly hot! Have no fear, we’ve got the perfect place for you to cool your jets and wet your whistle this summer while you’re in New Orleans.
History of Hansen’s Sno-Bliz in New Orleans, LA
Hansen’s Sno-Bliz is a historic mom and pop shop that’s been serving up delicious thirst quenching cones for 78 years! Hansen’s Sno-Bliz was started by Ernest and Mary Hansen in 1939. Ernest invented the first ice shaving machine and Mary created her own flavored syrups. The shop still has a rustic and homey feel. Even after all these years in business, it has maintained its small footprint, but the foot traffic, on the other hand, keeps getting larger.
Small Place, Big Impact
Locals and tourist alike come in droves to create their own shaved ice wonder from the house-made syrups that are still made from scratch daily! The fluffy ice is shaved to-order and creates layers so that the syrups soak in and don’t drip down to the bottom.
Hansen’s is an American Classic
Hansen’s recently opened for its 78th season in March and was named an American Classic by the James Beard Foundation. If you’re planning a visit, be sure to check their hours online first. They are usually open spring through fall. While online, you can even browse their flavors and toppings and an archive of family and business photos documenting how the sno-bliz ‘biz came to be.
Everyone deserves a treat now and again, so when you’re out and about this summer, stop in to grab a refreshing ice cold cone from Hansen’s Sno-Bliz. You’ll appreciate the hand-made craftsmanship that goes into each part. Don’t forget to stop into Ray Brandt Kia for your new summer ride!
